160 is NOT 100

So I was looking for another relatively cheap set to complete and settled on Upper Deck Icons.

There ate only 100 base cards in upper deck icons. However, a lot of sites like this one, say it is a 160 card set. This confuses poor little old me. Or it did until I checked the upper deck website and saw it was only 100 base cards.

Here I was about to go and make a post wondering if anyone had gotten anything above a 100 when they bought upper deck blasters and packs.

Fix your sites!

Oh and Chipper... please, please, please start hitting again soon. His average is gone done to 280. I HATE SLUMPS.

Padded Enevlopes in my mailbox!

So it seems my packages got to where they should be. Three cheers for the Postal Service!

All my trades where successful. Just wanted to send a thank you to everyone whom I have traded with.

First to come my way was a kick ass GU McCann Card from The Collective Troll. Not only was it my first GU by McCann, but my first ever triple swatch.

Then came a package from Cracking Wax. A Wright card as promised and not one, but TWO Upper Deck X cards. I do love surprises.

And last but not least, a package from Marie from a Cardboard problem. I got a couple of OPC Brave cards and a few A&G Braves. I love the look of the A&G Chipper, just wish he could have been smiling.

I'd scan, but don't have access to a scanner :(

Still, I love everything I got. Trading rocks my socks off.

15-2!

This is a rather pointless post.... but,

THE BRAVES BEAT THE MUTS FIFTEEN TO TWO!

All is right with the world again.

On a card related note, my wal-mart finally got in upper deck x blasters. ...If only I had the money to purchase them. Since they had no retail packs of UDX, I went for UD icons instead as it was the cheapest packs they had. I couldn't leave without buying SOMETHING.

Oh, and I hate the way our wal-mart has the cards set up. They have them down an isle where on the other side is a check out line. (which most of the time is busy) So you are constantly having to squeeze past shopping cats and shoppers. THERE ISN'T ENOUGH ROOM GOSH DARN IT! I feel bad taking the time to browse as I'm always in someone's way.

David Wright is a lucky man

In case you haven't yet heard, David Wright was hit in the head by a 94 MPH pitch yesterday. He was sent to the hospital, but luckily was able to go home this morning. You can read more about it HERE.

You can see a youtube video of it HERE.

That was terrifying to watch and he is damned lucky he wasn't hurt worse by it. Without his helmet, he would have likely been killed. I just hope he is able to play again. Although it is better to take the wait and see approach, then to have him come back before he is ready.

Speaking of which, I find it almost ironic that Dinged Corners had a post on safer helmets in baseball.

So Frenchy, after seeing your teammate get beamed by a pitch.. would you still refuse to wear the helmet? After watching that I don't see why any player would refuse such. Better dorky than dead.

On another (and better) note, I am going to start collecting his cards. I decided this yesterday. (before he was beamed)

I have a grand total of 5 cards currently. Yea, wow.

Why him? Well, even if he is a... a.... *cough*Met*cough* he is a good ball player, and from what I hear a pretty good man, which means a lot to me. Besides, I need someone besides a Brave.

That Trading game....

I actually sent off my first cards in the mail on Wednesday to Cracking Wax.

I plan on sending out two more packages next week to Marie at A Cardoard Problem and The Collective Troll.

If feels good to do the sending versus just the receiving and I hope I am able to send out even more in the future. I am also paranoid though. Did I put the right address? Did I protect the cards enough? Did I send the right ones? Did I send the wrong ones? What if it gets lost in the mail?

This is also my first time trading EVER. Never got the chance to do it the old school way as a kid sadly.

My undying love for Upper Deck X

Yes, the dreaded Upper Deck X.

I want to complete an 09 set. It will be my first 09 set, or actually my first completed set ever if I manage to succeed. Unless I manage to finish the 08 set or Tops 06 set before then that is.

The glaring question you might be wondering is WHY? WHY? WHHHHHHY?

I know most of the collecting world has dubbed the cards with their very own letter in the alphabet less than stellar. There is just something about them that appeals to me. I like them, I really do. ...Really. Honestly.

Besides for that though, there is another reason I am going after them.

UDX has a smaller base set. 100 cards are easier to get than 600. Or really 200 as I plan on going after the cut and uncut cards as well. Plus they are cheap, or cheaper than other cards, and for a gal on a limited budget, it can be a lifesaver.

I had thought about going after O-Pee-Chee and Allen and Ginter. I love the looks of both of them, but with nearly 600 base cards in O-Pee-Chee and all the different types of cards in Allen and Ginter there is no way I will ever get a full set when I average a blaster box a month.

I likely will still buy a pack here or there of OPC and A&G, but for the most part UDX will be it.

There has got to be someone out there that also collects the stuff I can trade with. Or ones that bought the cards on a whim and dislike them. I'm finally getting a collection going so perhaps we can work something out.

The man vs the player.

Which is a better one to be? A better man or a better ball player?

In the game of baseball that is obvious, the better ball player. We want someone that can win games. A player we can count on to come through for the team in a tough situation. You don't pay million dollars to a player because he is a nice person, you pay him because he can play ball. Who cares if he cheats on his wife so long as he is getting on base and bringing in runs.

Yet something happens when I find out that player A is using steroids or player B was caught drunk driving. I no longer want to race to the television when they come up to the plate, or feel the elation I once did when I rip open a pack of cards and see I have them. The player I always looked up to growing up suddenly doesn't seem so great anymore. As cliched as it sounds, the magic is gone.

At the same time, when I find out the mediocre player just donated a large chunk of his paycheck to a a worthy cause,I start to look at them in a new light. I began to follow them and even looking out for their cards. They gain my respect.

They don't have to be saints either. None of us are. I don't try and put players on a pedestal. I just like seeing a person at least trying to do the right thing. That to me means more than breaking a record.

Maybe I'm stupid and letting my emotions get in the way, I am girl after all. As said in my previous post though, I just would rather watch and cheer on a mediocre or even a poor player that is a good man than one of the best players in the game that also happens to be the biggest jerk.

I want cards of the crappiest players to ever play the game.

That's right, you heard me. I want to start a collection of some of the worst players in all of baseball history. Rather they be current players or past ones. Players so bad they get booed by thier own fans.

Why? Umm.... because I'm tired and not thinking straight at the moment. Plus I have respect for all players (most all) and would rather see the card go to a good home than tossed in some forgotten corner.

Also, requesting players that you perhaps don't want is a better deal as I doubt I have very much to offer you myself.

Now, when I say the crappiest player, I mean in the game of BASEBALL. Not their off the field antics or steroid users. Call me crazy, but I would much, much rather have a card of the worst baseball player in the world who is also the nicest guy, VS a card of the best ball player ever who was also the biggest ass ever. Just bad ball players. Also, they can simply be players you think are god awful, not just ones that statics say.

Feel free to discus about the players as well.

QUESTIONS
Who do you think the worst player/s is/are?
Current?
All time?

I am going to hell

Today, I shamefully admit to pack searching at Target.

I had gone into buy a blaster of upper deck x 2009 which was due out today, Sadly neither they, nor Wally world had any such blasters. They did have loose packs in Target though, which I almost did not see as they had been placed behind another product.

I admit to feeling the packs for the thicker one and purchasing that pack. I also bought nine more. Not nine thick ones, but just grabbed an assortment and went with them... which I should have done to start with. I don't know what made me do it. Greed maybe, plus the skewed logic that I would have bought a blaster pack and would have gotten a game used that way anyway. I still feel dirty though.
