Basketball cards for Baseball cards?

So among my many assorted packs of baseball cards for Christmas, I also got...

a double pack of Upper Deck Basketball cards.

Since I don't collet basketball cards I was wondering if anyone would want to trade me a double pack of baseball cards for the basketball one. It is unopened.

Any takers? Someone out there must like basketball.

As for why I don't take it back to the store, I don't know which store it came from and don't have a recit.

Thank you secret santa!

I now have not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, not seven, no eight, not nine, but TEN new Chipper Jones jersey cards! I literaly squealed when I opened the brown envelope. I loved the "He went to Chipper note" as well. :)

Awesome gift!

I also got some really REALLY great baseball realted gifts as well. Cards from multiple folks and a Chipper Jones mouse pad!

I can't find the cord to the camera to upload pictures sadly.

Sorry I haven't been updating more. In part I've been lazy and the other I haven't had much insperation for a post. Hope to chnage that however with the new year though.

Bahhh Humbug!

The other dayI had gone to check the mail. Upon opening the box I saw a padded brown envelope.

With growing excitement I removed it from the mail box to see who it was from.

And it was from...

...Me.

I had sent an envelope to a blogger the day before and it had been returned back to me with

THIS!

I KNEW I should have put that other stamp. My mom said one would be enough.

IT WASN'T THOUGH!

It wasn't even that heavy. Hell, a birthday card weights more,

Bahhh Humbug.

On another (happier!)note.

I am getting THIS for Chritsmas. My one big gift.

My first jump box EVER!

I am the GREATEST Brave Fan in the World!

Seeeee!
.
This proves it!

I found this in my closet while searching for a cord that goes to my portable DVD player. Didn't find the cord (my mom had it) but I did find this card. I am a pack rat at times and birthday cards are something I have a hard time letting go off.

Here is a look inside

"Mama Sis" was my grandmother. I say was, as she passed away from Cancer last year. She died on my birthday. By that time she was bedridden and had to be watched 24/7. She couldn't even feed herself. My mom and brother where with her when she took her last breath.

As for the name, it was something we always called her. My brother, my couison..... she was always known as mama sis. Even most friends called her Sis. I called her Mama Sissy.

Besides for me, she was the biggest Brave fan in our family and likely where I got my love for the game from. She used to watch every game that came on and when I was at her house, as I often was, we would watch them together.

Her favorite player was Greg Maddux. We bought her a shirt one year with his picture. She even wore it to a game, one of the two we got to take her to before she got sick. It got lost a few years later though. She would always claim that we had it and my mom would always argue that we didn't. We found it a few months back in the closet in our back bedroom.

I remember one our best traditions though was during baseball season when we where away from each other. Whenever one of us saw Chipper hit a home run we would ring each other. At times the lines would be busy because we would both be calling each other. When I wasn't able to watch the game, but knew one was on and the phone would ring during that time, I would KNOW it was her. I miss that more than anything. Being able to called her when Chipper does something.

I miss her, how she used to be before the Cancer took her. When she was able to name the players and would jokingly call Chipper's first kid the "Hooter Baby" When she would read Chop Talk and watch the games. When she would save the paper for me when it had something about a Brave Player. I wanted to go to more games with her. The two we went to just where not enough.

I hope they get Peach Tree TV in Heaven.

Pictures!

Yup, pictures.

.. OF BRAVES!

BRAAAAAAAAAAVE PICTURES that where taken either be me or my mom, or in one or two cases a stranger.

Why pictures? Cuse I have nothing productive to say.

This was taken this year in Evans GA. It was at a sports store.

FAN FEST 07... taken by my ymom. She went in McCann's line, I was in Frenchy's. We where both in Chipper's. We wanted a pic with him and me, but they rushed us through the line so fast we couldn't. Did see his wife and children... I think he even had the Hooter baby with him. ...Hooter baby was what my grandmother called the kid who's mom is the Hooter's waiter/worker that he slept with.

This was the women's day thingee in 07. I was there!

Packs for a dolllar & Secret santa update

I did something that I said I wouldn't do... I went to a store today. Three, in fact. Fred's, Wal-Mart and the dollar store.

Oddly enough, they where not that busy. I've even seen it busier on some days. Bonus of going after lunch I suppose.

Besides for getting my mom a few things... GUESS WHAT I BOUGHT????????!!!!!!!!!

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

_ _ _ _ _

Can you figure it out?

Guess what else?!

The dollar tree caries cards! Someone had mentioned that on another blog and I went and there they where! Actually, I almost missed them as they where near the register. Much smaller selection than the other blogger's dollar tree though. They only had two baseball products, upper deck 2008 series one and upper deck time line. Still baseball cards in a DOLLAR store. They also had hockey, football, and basketball,

As for the UPDATE....

When you get your secret Santa gift, please let me know here or through an e-mail. I'd just like to try and keep track of things. JUST DON"T OPEN IT YET.

Oh, and one or two of you haven't sent me an e-mail about who our secret santa is... please do so ASAP. I don't want someone to get nothing. If something has come up and you can't continue, let me know soon so I can make arrangments.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

BEHOLD... my BRAVE turkey

Hope everyone is having a good Thanksgiving.

I am thankful for family, our troops overseas, homemade stuffing, brown and serve rolls, turkey that isn't dry, telephones to keep in contact with family that can't be here, my cat, my blog subscribers and readers, fellow bloggers to trade with with, and the fact that I will not be out tomorrow shopping.

Plus much, much, more.

A Chrismas post you say?

A bit early for a Christmas post? Not according to the television which has been running Christmas commercials since the first of November and the stores with snowmen and Santa out before Halloween. On one isle you can buy a Jason mask and the other a singing Santa.

And me... putting up a life sized Santa at the end of the driveway, which hopefully will not be stolen like both are scarecrows where. Stealing Santa is just wrong though. Stealing baby Jesus from a manger scene is worse, even if he is plastic.

Enough of me rambling though.

Despite it being more than a decade since I have written to Santa, my family still asks for a list of what I want. This year the list is as follows...

1. Three ring binders of various sizes.
2. nine card Baseball holders
3. Padded envelopes of various sizes
4. Stamps
5. Baseball cards.
6. Harry Potter and the Half blood Prince DVD

Noticing a theme? :P

I don't really want that much this year. I don't really need that much. I know people don't have buckets of money and I figure at lot of these things are something they can afford. Plus I'd be happy as can be to receive a large three ringer binder than I would a HDTV. Truelly I would. I already have a TV that works, but not a binder.

My mom has already asked me to save links to the cards I want though as they are utterly clueless when it comes to cards. So long as they are baseball, I'd be happy though.

QUESTIONS (I has them!)

Do you guys have anything baseball/card related that you want this year?

What is the best baseball/sports related gift you have ever gotten?

For me it would be the signed base ball bat by Chipper my Mom go me last year.

The WINNER IS....

"Hackenbush"

I have 18 pictures, figurines and posters of Chipper.

....Not THAT obsessive.

...right?

Just send your address to chipper_fan@hotmail.com :)

WORST NIGHTMARE EVER!!!!

I had the absolute worst nightmare EVER the other night.

I went to Target and they had stopped selling baseball cards! It was horrible. All they had where NASCAR memorabilia . I asked a worker when they where getting more and they said they weren't! I don't hate NASCAR, but IT WAS JUST TO MUCH!

I also dreamed about trying to buy a blaster box of Topps 2008 series 2, but couldn't and the whole thing turned into a huge ordeal that took me all over town.

...I need to stop having dreams about cards.

McCann's Lame Contest

So I've been wanting to do a contest. However, I really don't have that much to offer. I still don't have that much to offer really. What I do have is three packs of Donruss 1991 cards and two packs of 1993 topps series 1 cards. I know, not that grand, but it is free cards.

SEEEEEEEEE!

So if you want em, simply guess how may times Chipper Jones is displayed in my room. This does not include cards. Figurines, posters and pictures are included however. Person that gets it right are comes closest, wins. Contest lasts till next Saturday.

The mailman had been busy.

I got some packages this week, which makes me happy.

Thanks to Night Owl I am close to completing my 2006 topps set. He got me all but twelve of them. Whoo! Thank you.

I also got a surprise package from Troll yesterday. It contained a Curtis Granderson Jersey card, two other Curtis cards and even some Braves. There was note saying he wanted to be the first to give me a Curtis jersey card, and he was! :) The Curtis cards are now at home in their very own album and the Braves in their... shoe box. It is a nice shoe box that is decorated pwreeety though.

And and ANNNNNNNNND! I got my set of 1990 score set from Ebay.

I also had another post on another topic, but my computer ate it.

1990 score

I hadn't even heard of this set until I was leafing through my cards and found a couple the other day. I have to say I like it, I really, really like it. I like the the colors, the pictures, and I especially like the design on the back of the card. It is different than I am use to seeing, which is perhaps why I like it so much.

Smooooooooooltzie!

I liked it so much I bought the entire set on Ebay! It was only 1.25 for the set, but 14.00 for shipping, so it seems to even out from what I've seen on E-bay. Plus the guys had great feedback. I hope I get what I asked for anyway.

I don't tend to go for full sets, but it isn't like you can stop by target and pick up a few packs when you want.

Have you guys seen these cards? Don't know how popular they are really.

How I spent my Halloween.

Ready for it?

Alphabetizing my Brave cards while watching Halloween. Or watching bits and pieces of it anyhow.

I have to say though, I'd rather spend time with cards than at a party. Cards aren't loud and obnoxious. I miss trick or treating though. I went as Chipper one year, one of my last years I believe. Even did my socks up to my knees, which I'm sad to say he doesn't do anymore. Don't think I have a picture, or if I do it is lost and buried somewhere.

Oh and I have been looking for new players to collect and along with David Wright, I have picked Curtis Granderson. It stemmed from seeing an interview of him once and he just seemed like a nice and likable guy, and the more I look the more I find my first impression to be true.

P.S I got your package Troll, thanks. Getting closer and closer to marking off all my cards or series 1. ;) Enjoyed the Braves as well.

...and for all you Americans, remember to turn your clocks back an hour before going to bed.

Storing your sets.

I am curious where you keep your sets. In binders or boxes?

Is there a binder big enough to fit the typical Topps base sets of 630+ cards?

Also, how do you feel about buying the entire base set in one go?

I am a bit iffy myself. On one hand it is easy to do and everything is all there and in order (I assume the cards are in order). Yet, it takes from the thrill of ripping packs and putting the set together yourself. The satisfaction with comes with checking off yet another number on your want list. The memories you get when you look through the set and remember where and how you got the card.

... I had more to say, but my mind has gone blank. Just been staring mindlessly at the screen for the last few minutes. Meh, night.

My Brave Pumpkin!

I carve a pumpkin every year. In fact, I'll likely be ninety, sorrounded by my many cats, and still scooping pumpkin guts.

I'm far from the best pumpkin carver in the world however and usually wind up triangle eyes and a smile for a mouth.

I've thought about trying to do those pumpkin carving kits with the stencils, but even that seemed beyond me. Plus it takes forever just for the simple face, (in my case at least) and patience was never my strong suit.

Yet when I saw the pumpkin stenciles on the Brave site I decided to give it a whirl. You can see them here. I picked the A as it looked the easiest for my level of skill.. and here is the result of my labors....

Feel free to post your own pumpkins. I would love to see your work.

The names have been drawn!

Log in to Elfster to see who you got.=) Everyone should have gotten somebody, if not let me know.

When you get your person, please e-mail me their name and e-mail (if they have left one on Elftser) so I can get you their address and blog.

Then you can start shopping!

Two important reminders..

When you send the gift please mark somewhere on the package "SS" or secret santa, so folks know what the package is.

Also, I would like for everyone to save their gifts to open on the holiday of their choice. I just think that it would be more fun that way.

Cards, cards everywhere

I have come to the realization that I have cards in nearly every conceivable location of the house, and some not so conceivable places.

That is due to A) not having enough room to store all my cards, mainly thanks to the wonderful bloggers out there. B) My tendency to wander aimlessly with whatever is in my hand, which most of the time is cards and C) constantly wanting to sort through, look at, and flip through them.

Currently the cards are.....

On my computer desk, on my giant computer desk that holds my tv, under my bed, on my book shelf, on my lost self (shelf with LOST figures), on my baseball shelves, on my dresser, in my dresser, on the living room table, in the car, in the truck, in a shirt pocket, behind a picture frame, on the floor, under the keyboard, in my closet, on the bathroom vanity, in the kitchen on a old desk, in my brave book bag... and likely other places I can't remember.

Oh, and I want to thank everyone that had sent me cards last week. There where few of you, which made me very happy. My topps 2008 series one set is nearly complete, as is my upper deck icons set.

And, thanks to Night Owl, my topps 2006 set will soon be complete, or very, very nearly anyway. Yaaaaa. ^_____^ This was my first set I went after in an attempt to complete it.

Dreeeeeeeeaming and..... dreaming.

So I had a dream last night about getting a package in the mail. Yea, reeeeeeal exciting.

In my dream I was getting the mail and hoping for a package from a blogger. As dreams often go, it was illogical as one moment I was in my dad's front yard and the next, the mail was in my hand.
(like magic!)

But, I was sad to see that it was only bills.

Then suddenly, (like magic!) there was a pillow sized brown envelope in my hand that I had apparently "overlooked."

but... THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE PACKAGE! Not a thing. Zip. Nada. Nothing! Dream me was devastated and dream me kept rechecking the package to see if I had missed something.

And guess what?

GUESS?!

THE BEST THING IN THE WORLD HAPPENED!

The empty package was empty no more! Cards had suddenly appeared! (like magic!) Dozens upon dozens of cards! ....and they kept coming and coming and coming.

Then I woke up before the card avalanche could stop.

What does it mean?

Probably that I should get a life and stop thinking about cards so much.

SECRET SANTA UPDATE!

So it has nearly been two weeks since I started the Secret Santa and I have gotten ten participants thus far!

WOOOOOOOOOO!

Again, thank you all that have signed up so far.

I am going to leave it open until SUNDAY, so more folks can join if that wish. So be sure to spread the word tell others about this if you haven't already. After all, the more the merrier.

Wednesday, October 7, 2009

Cheap, cheap says the birdie.

Getting last year's cards is a good way to save money. That being said, I have decided to try and complete Topps 2008 series 1 & 2.

$4.95 for a blaster of 5 packs isn't bad. (10 per pack) Neither is $11.95 for 10 packs. Of course they don't have series 2, but I may save up and buy a hobby box in that case.

I have yet to come across a Chipper yet though thus far. I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed him. NEEEEED!

There was also a blaster box of 2007 Topps in my local wal-mart which is now mine. (10 packs for 4.95.) Sadly there was only that one lonesome blaster left. I have a lot more of them though than 2008 Topps as I had bough some blasters previously. I would love to complete that set as well, but I just don't have the money.

I just wish they had more blasters to pick from. No wait, scratch that.. I don't, as I would want them as well. I have no will power when it comes to cards.

Oh and THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT HAS SIGNED UP FOR SECRET SANTA!

.. and enough caps locks.

Oh. Oh oooooooooooooooooooooooh.. Thanks for the Brave cards Troll! Love them!

SECRET SANTA!

IT IS TIME FOR.....

THE BASEBALL BLOGGERS SECRET SANTA!

I have decided to go ahead and start it now. I know it may seem early, but that is because this is going to be done via the internet there are a few steps involved and I want to get started with them now.

There are a few other things I need you to do if you wish to participate.

First leave your e-mail. I need this so I can sign you up for the secret Santa program. Unfortunately it doesn't look as if you can log on and enter your own e-mail.

I also need you to e-mail me your mailing address, the e-mail you signed up with for the secret Santa, as well as a link to your blog or website.

As to why I am asking for your address, it is because you would end up having to ask the person when you mail the gift, thus ruining the SECRET part. I promise not to share with anyone but the person who gets your name.

When you get your person, you will need e-mail me their e-mail/name and I will give you the address. (this will take placer later)

As you can see a lot of steps involved. Mainly for me, but I have no life so it should be well. I don't see an easier way. If you do let me know. Again, I WANT to do this.

Here is what I need you to do now

STEP 1: Leave your e-mail

STEP 2: Send me an e-mail with your

E-MAIL ADDRESS (the one you will use for the secret santa)

MAILING ADDRESS

BLOG/website

USERNAME/ ( or the name you tend to use on blog)

I will leave this open for two weeks. That should be enough time for folks to sign up. Please be sure to tell fellow bloggers as I'd like everyone that wanted to; to participate

If you have any questions please let me know.

REMINDER!

Please don't sign up if you don't think you are going to commit to buying and shipping a gift. It isn't going to be fun for the person you have to get jiffed

The gift has to be baseball related and needs to be under twenty dollars. Also, NO wish list. Do some sleuthing.

My first TTM!

I had heard that Pat Neshek was great about doing TTM autographs so I decided to give it a go. I sent of a card and letter last Wednesday and got the card back signed today. He also sent a Manny Rameriez card as well. Sweet. I've heard he was fast, but I can't believe it was this fast.

THANK YOU NESHEK!

Oh, and other news, I got some really nice Brave cards from Baseball Dad. I also got my contest winnings from Great Sports Name Hall of Fame in the way of McGriff cards. I even decided to make a McGriff binder.

...How is it I have no McGriff cards whatsoever in all the years that I've been collecting?

One more note.. I do plan on going through with the secret santa. More news to come later.

BRAVES WIN! METS LOSE!

BOTTOM OF THE NINTH! WIN! WIN! WIN!

6-5

ROUTINE GROUND BALL BOTCHED BY DANIEL MURPHY ALLOWED THE WINNING RUN TO SCORE!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I was rolling on the floor laughing. ROTFL, only I really was ROTFL!

Only thing better than beating the Mets? Having their screw up win us the game!

Secret santa for baseball bloggers?!

This may be a tad early, but I had an idea I wanted to toss out and see what others thought.

A secret santa for baseball bloggers.

Ok, so forgive me if this has been proposed before. I'm still new and haven't been around long. I also looked through a few blogs and didn't see anything.

I assume you know how secret santa works. You pick a name from a hat (or in this case from an online program) and you have to buy the person you picked a gift.

I was thinking that the gift would have to be baseball realted however. Or at the very least card related. Rather that be a pack of cards, or a card of favourite player, stickers, or whatever. The gift can be funny or serious, it just has to be realted to either baseball, or sports cards.

Also, there would be a limit. Not evreyone is made out of money and I'm not aiming for this to be a big ordeal.

For now this is simply at an idea phase. More to gauge interest. If people like it, then I'll move on to more concrete plans such as setting a date, limit/etc.

Now onto the..... QUESTIONS

First of all would anyone be at all intrested in doing this? Or for that matter what do you think of the idea?

What should the limit be? I was thinking nothing over tweenty really, maybe even ten dollars. There are a lot of items you can find for a fairly good price if you bother to look.

Should there be a wish list? Or should people try and sleuth around for the person they get and get them a “surprise"

Any suggestions or advice?

Not about baseball cards

For the first time in a long while, I didn't buy baseball cards.

THE SHOCK! THE HORROR!

Instead I bought the latest nerf gun, the Raider CS- 35. A really, really awesome gun.

<---------- BEHOLD (for those non link clickers out there)

I like nerf guns. Besides, for baseball cards they are my only... hobby I guess you could call it. Or maybe fascination would be a better word. I don't don't really use them with other people, unless you count my four year old nephew who enjoys shooting some of the smaller guns when he visits. He loves to shoot my card board cut out of Chipper (Yes, I have a life sized cardboard cut out of the man in my room.) I just like messing around with them and shooting foam projectiles.

I've always been something of a tomboy. Never really like dolls, always played with ninja turtles and G.I Joes when I was kid. I also enjoyed nerf guns and I have yet to grow out of that urge. Still a big kid at heart. Plus the guns they had where no where near as cool as they where when I was young.

A lot of people seem to like to point out how childish and what a waste of money the guns are. Personally I see no difference in this then a woman that goes out and buys her nineteenth pair of shoes. I find owning more than half a dozen pair of shoes pointless, and buying any more to be a waste of money. If what I like makes me happy and doesn't hurt anyone, then who cares. I think people would be lot more happy and a lot less stressed if they didn't put so much emphasis on doing what is socially acceptable and just did what made them happy.

...and enough rambling. I am curious as to if any of you have ever owned a nerf gun. Or what where your favorite childhood toys? Still have any toys out there today you wish you could get your hands on?

P.S Oh, wait, I did also buy one pack of cards. Sadly all I got where doubles and triples.

PP.S And my counter is whacked up. Seriously whacked up. You don't go from a hundred hits to 11,000 in a week.

Buying individual cards?

I seem to be full of questions these days.

Is there anywhere that allows a person to buy multiple cards of a set? Like if you just wanted just 1, 6, 16, 88, and 100. I've heard card shows allow you to do so, but sadly I can't find one anywhere near enough I could convince someone to drive me.

That being said if anyone knows about any in South Carolina (that isn't on the coast) let me know.

Most sites only sell buy the blaster or packs. I know sites like E-bay sell individual cards, but they aren't the place to go if you need to finish a set really.

Upper Deck Icons 09 (Baseball) needed

I'm trying to finish off the set and I only need 29 cards to do so.

1, 6, 15, 17, 18, 22,
24, 31, 36, 39, 42,
45, 51, 54, 58, 60, 63,
69, 70, 78, 80, 81, 85,
87, 90, 98,

Would any of you happen to have any that you can spare? I have a few doubles, but not many. I know not many people collect, let alone like UD icons, but they are easily affordable for a gal on a budget. Plus I like the cards and it being a smaller set, means I have a better chance of completing it.

ENTER OR DIE!

Ok, so you likely won't die, but you should still enter Coolio Card's contest

All you gotta do is a pick a number 1-100 that has yet to be picked and follow his blog. HOW HARD IS THAT?

Some questions....

Do blaster boxes (of the same product)in a store contain the same cards as each other? What I mean is, if you where to buy two, would you get a lot of duplicates? I've heard varying things, but I would like know if that is the case you buy more than one blaster.

Also, do you keep a binder of your favorite team? I want too, but I have to many cards for that to happen really. I'm thinking about just keeping a binder of my favorite player/s.

And one more question... anyone know a site with a good price on sleeves? (the nine card ones for binders)

Oh, and I got a surprise in my mailbox yesterday! BRAVE CARDS FROM MARIE! I love surprises.

160 is NOT 100

So I was looking for another relatively cheap set to complete and settled on Upper Deck Icons.

There ate only 100 base cards in upper deck icons. However, a lot of sites like this one, say it is a 160 card set. This confuses poor little old me. Or it did until I checked the upper deck website and saw it was only 100 base cards.

Here I was about to go and make a post wondering if anyone had gotten anything above a 100 when they bought upper deck blasters and packs.

Fix your sites!

Oh and Chipper... please, please, please start hitting again soon. His average is gone done to 280. I HATE SLUMPS.

Padded Enevlopes in my mailbox!

So it seems my packages got to where they should be. Three cheers for the Postal Service!

All my trades where successful. Just wanted to send a thank you to everyone whom I have traded with.

First to come my way was a kick ass GU McCann Card from The Collective Troll. Not only was it my first GU by McCann, but my first ever triple swatch.

Then came a package from Cracking Wax. A Wright card as promised and not one, but TWO Upper Deck X cards. I do love surprises.

And last but not least, a package from Marie from a Cardboard problem. I got a couple of OPC Brave cards and a few A&G Braves. I love the look of the A&G Chipper, just wish he could have been smiling.

I'd scan, but don't have access to a scanner :(

Still, I love everything I got. Trading rocks my socks off.

Everybody loves contests.

15-2!

This is a rather pointless post.... but,

THE BRAVES BEAT THE MUTS FIFTEEN TO TWO!

All is right with the world again.

On a card related note, my wal-mart finally got in upper deck x blasters. ...If only I had the money to purchase them. Since they had no retail packs of UDX, I went for UD icons instead as it was the cheapest packs they had. I couldn't leave without buying SOMETHING.

Oh, and I hate the way our wal-mart has the cards set up. They have them down an isle where on the other side is a check out line. (which most of the time is busy) So you are constantly having to squeeze past shopping cats and shoppers. THERE ISN'T ENOUGH ROOM GOSH DARN IT! I feel bad taking the time to browse as I'm always in someone's way.

David Wright is a lucky man

In case you haven't yet heard, David Wright was hit in the head by a 94 MPH pitch yesterday. He was sent to the hospital, but luckily was able to go home this morning. You can read more about it HERE.

You can see a youtube video of it HERE.

That was terrifying to watch and he is damned lucky he wasn't hurt worse by it. Without his helmet, he would have likely been killed. I just hope he is able to play again. Although it is better to take the wait and see approach, then to have him come back before he is ready.

Speaking of which, I find it almost ironic that Dinged Corners had a post on safer helmets in baseball.

So Frenchy, after seeing your teammate get beamed by a pitch.. would you still refuse to wear the helmet? After watching that I don't see why any player would refuse such. Better dorky than dead.

On another (and better) note, I am going to start collecting his cards. I decided this yesterday. (before he was beamed)

I have a grand total of 5 cards currently. Yea, wow.

Why him? Well, even if he is a... a.... *cough*Met*cough* he is a good ball player, and from what I hear a pretty good man, which means a lot to me. Besides, I need someone besides a Brave.

That Trading game....

I actually sent off my first cards in the mail on Wednesday to Cracking Wax.

I plan on sending out two more packages next week to Marie at A Cardoard Problem and The Collective Troll.

If feels good to do the sending versus just the receiving and I hope I am able to send out even more in the future. I am also paranoid though. Did I put the right address? Did I protect the cards enough? Did I send the right ones? Did I send the wrong ones? What if it gets lost in the mail?

This is also my first time trading EVER. Never got the chance to do it the old school way as a kid sadly.

My undying love for Upper Deck X

Yes, the dreaded Upper Deck X.

I want to complete an 09 set. It will be my first 09 set, or actually my first completed set ever if I manage to succeed. Unless I manage to finish the 08 set or Tops 06 set before then that is.

The glaring question you might be wondering is WHY? WHY? WHHHHHHY?

I know most of the collecting world has dubbed the cards with their very own letter in the alphabet less than stellar. There is just something about them that appeals to me. I like them, I really do. ...Really. Honestly.

Besides for that though, there is another reason I am going after them.

UDX has a smaller base set. 100 cards are easier to get than 600. Or really 200 as I plan on going after the cut and uncut cards as well. Plus they are cheap, or cheaper than other cards, and for a gal on a limited budget, it can be a lifesaver.

I had thought about going after O-Pee-Chee and Allen and Ginter. I love the looks of both of them, but with nearly 600 base cards in O-Pee-Chee and all the different types of cards in Allen and Ginter there is no way I will ever get a full set when I average a blaster box a month.

I likely will still buy a pack here or there of OPC and A&G, but for the most part UDX will be it.

There has got to be someone out there that also collects the stuff I can trade with. Or ones that bought the cards on a whim and dislike them. I'm finally getting a collection going so perhaps we can work something out.

The man vs the player.

Which is a better one to be? A better man or a better ball player?

In the game of baseball that is obvious, the better ball player. We want someone that can win games. A player we can count on to come through for the team in a tough situation. You don't pay million dollars to a player because he is a nice person, you pay him because he can play ball. Who cares if he cheats on his wife so long as he is getting on base and bringing in runs.

Yet something happens when I find out that player A is using steroids or player B was caught drunk driving. I no longer want to race to the television when they come up to the plate, or feel the elation I once did when I rip open a pack of cards and see I have them. The player I always looked up to growing up suddenly doesn't seem so great anymore. As cliched as it sounds, the magic is gone.

At the same time, when I find out the mediocre player just donated a large chunk of his paycheck to a a worthy cause,I start to look at them in a new light. I began to follow them and even looking out for their cards. They gain my respect.

They don't have to be saints either. None of us are. I don't try and put players on a pedestal. I just like seeing a person at least trying to do the right thing. That to me means more than breaking a record.

Maybe I'm stupid and letting my emotions get in the way, I am girl after all. As said in my previous post though, I just would rather watch and cheer on a mediocre or even a poor player that is a good man than one of the best players in the game that also happens to be the biggest jerk.

Wednesday, August 5, 2009

I want cards of the crappiest players to ever play the game.

That's right, you heard me. I want to start a collection of some of the worst players in all of baseball history. Rather they be current players or past ones. Players so bad they get booed by thier own fans.

Why? Umm.... because I'm tired and not thinking straight at the moment. Plus I have respect for all players (most all) and would rather see the card go to a good home than tossed in some forgotten corner.

Also, requesting players that you perhaps don't want is a better deal as I doubt I have very much to offer you myself.

Now, when I say the crappiest player, I mean in the game of BASEBALL. Not their off the field antics or steroid users. Call me crazy, but I would much, much rather have a card of the worst baseball player in the world who is also the nicest guy, VS a card of the best ball player ever who was also the biggest ass ever. Just bad ball players. Also, they can simply be players you think are god awful, not just ones that statics say.

Feel free to discus about the players as well.

QUESTIONS
Who do you think the worst player/s is/are?
Current?
All time?

I am going to hell

Today, I shamefully admit to pack searching at Target.

I had gone into buy a blaster of upper deck x 2009 which was due out today, Sadly neither they, nor Wally world had any such blasters. They did have loose packs in Target though, which I almost did not see as they had been placed behind another product.

I admit to feeling the packs for the thicker one and purchasing that pack. I also bought nine more. Not nine thick ones, but just grabbed an assortment and went with them... which I should have done to start with. I don't know what made me do it. Greed maybe, plus the skewed logic that I would have bought a blaster pack and would have gotten a game used that way anyway. I still feel dirty though.

LAROCHE A BRAVE?! (again)

What? What? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

So it appears that Casey Kotchman was traded to the Red Sox for Adam Laroche today. Adam hasn't even been a Sox a week.

I know Kotchm has not produced like the Braves hoped but I have to say I did not see this coming. I have always liked Laroche and I hope he does well. I just didn't know he was doing good enough for such a trade.

Seeee

I am a sheep.

I’m back finally. Computer still broke, but I’m using the one at my Dad’s and my uncle has an old one I can use when I go back home. Computers are great when they work, but pain in the rear that you feel like taking baseball bat to and throwing out ten story window when it doesn’t.

I’ve gotten quite a few packages from folks and I would like to thank all that have sent me something. I plan on sending thank you notes to those that have. Yes, thank you notes. I have no cards to give, so a thank you note is it. I should have been sent them out but I am the world’s worst procrastinator. What are stamsp now btw?

I bought my first O-Pee-Chee blaster a few days ago. I’ve gotten lose packs previously. Hoping to score me a Chipper as I really liked the look of his card in the set. I’ve only opened a pack thus far.

I also bought some lose packs of Allen & Ginter at Target on Saturday. I went in for a blaster but they did not have any. Oddly enough there was a guy there picking up a few lose packs of them as well. We talked and he said he hasn’t been able to find any of them around the area stores and neither have I. He did see some a while back at the Target we where in, but none since. Stop buying them so fast people.

That was the first person I’ve seen also buying cards. It was cool to see someone else though.

Those are the two sets I think I’m going to stick to this year. (Well, if I can find them) I can thank all the baseball bogs for my decision with both

Or mainly dayf for my choice in A and G. His enthusiasm enthused me. Plus they are nice looking cards.

Yes, I am a sheep just as the title says.

And I want me some Hockey cards. I have a grand total of one hockey card in a binder thus far. The only place I’ve been able to find hockey cards is at Target though. Granted I haven’t gone many places, but I would have though Wal-Mart would have something. None of the ones around me have anything though. I do live in the Southern United States though, not exactly Hockey country.

Computer issues and thanks.

First of all I would like to thank evreyone who has followed my blog. You all rock.

and yea, as the title says...my computer has issues. Big issues. I think I screwed it up big time. As as a result, my computer time will likely be non existent for a week or more. I am using another computer right now, but likely will only use it to check my e-mail once a day.

I had just wanted to share some of the packages I would soon be getting in the mail, but I doubt I'll get a chance to for a while. I will mis reading and responding to all your blogs though.

P.S THE BRAVE GAME LAST NIGHT WAS AWESOME!

I need 2008 Upper Deck X cards,

I want to complete an Upper Deck X 2008 set. Yes, I happen to like Upper Deck X. It will also be (with YOUR help) my very first complete set. Or well, with the base cards anyhow. I’d like the shiny cards as well, but I don’t know how they are numbered. (Yes, I called them shiny cards, because they are... shiny)

I don’t know if people generally ask (beg) for sets like this and I hope I am not breaking some cardinal rule of baseball card blogging. I just don’t have any cards to trade. Or ones that anyone would want anyhow.

I will give you something in return. Like, umm… a handwritten letter of heartfelt thanks? I’m serious. I don’t have a lot to give, but my barley legible handwriting I have. Maybe even a few quarters for the postage you pay as well.

Oh, and what I mean by normal and cut is.. (Norma1= regular four sided card. (Cut= cards cut in shape of an X.))

Iron=:( Mail= :)

Today is not my day. No it is not. Nope. Nada. Mainly due to the fact the pool we worked so hard to put up is now a dark red in color thanks to all the iron in the water. Plus other things have managed to make this day one I would rather forget.

There was one bright spot however, and that came by way of the mailman.

I GOT MY TOM GLAVINE CARD! I thought I was going to be forced to wait yet another day when my mom and I drove up to check the mail, as it, nor my beloved choptalk didn’t appear to be there.

….Then she pulled two pieces of mail that had been left behind in the box…. and THERE IT WAS!

.. an envelope addressed to me, with the return address bearing “compliments of bad wax.” Oh, bright spot in a not so happy day! ( ..I’m still waiting on Chop Talk.)

The envelope had torn open already, but there was Tommy gazing up at me, as safe and sound as any card could be. My very first card in the mail, the first of many I hope.

Black VS White

Ok, so that isn’t the most politically correct title, but it serves the purpose of what I want to talk about.

I had bought two blasters packs of Topps 2009 series 1 awhile back. What I did not know at time though, was that Wal-Mart was doing a special black boarded card set.

Newbie me thought that was how they where all supposed to look. At least that is, until today, when I bought two retail packs of series 2 cards. They had white borders. Then I got to looking at other card blogs. They had series 1 cards with white borders. SEEEEEE!

I don’t really have that much of a problem with them really. The border looks fine and all, I’m just funny about wanting sets to look the same. I just wish I would have known about the special black borders before hand. So many different stores/etc seem to have various things going on with cards. Like the 2009 set with Traget retro and the Wal-mart black borders.

What do you all think of such sets having different varations? Do you just combine the cards to make one set (like some from Target and others from wal-mart, etc) Or do you stick to one? (all black border cards)

Damnit Braves and G-L-A-V-I-N-E

No, this is not a rant about Glavine being let go.

Those of you that have been watching the games know what I mean by Damnit Braves. I love the guys and always will, but this can't keep going on. I sometimes think the one run loss is worse than last night's 2-7 loss.

AND on an unrealted and better note.. I WON A TOM GLAVINE CARD! Thanks to chemgod at Bad Wax.

I was so excited that night after winning that I couldn't sleep and ended up having to take one of those over the counter sleep aides. And wow, I didn't realize how sad that sounds untill now. ;P I am just an easily excitable and nervous person.

Topps 06 and Upper Deck X

I want to complete the 2006 Topps base set. Why go for a three year old set? Easy, I’m jobless. I will not say why I am jobless, just that I have a couple of “problems” and we are looking for help in trying to get past said problems. Currently however, the only way I can make money is doing odd jobs around the house. That also means I don’t get an ungodly amount of money, so I’ve chosen to go after packs with reduced prices.

Our Fred’s (sort of like a small k-mart) had several blasters packs of 06, which through the months, I have been buying.

..And I just bought the last two blasters packs they had today. Even with these I’ll likely still have far from a full set. Actually there is no likely about it, I know I will not. Hence why I say I wanted to complete the set. Unfortunately you can’t always get what you want.

There is the internet I suppose, although I’m a bit weary about that.

I also want to complete the Upper Deck X set. I happen to like the cards, so sue me. Doubt I’ll get to complete the set though as K-mart is the only place I’ve seen Blaster packs and they are now all out. …which is thanks to me.

I hear Upper Deck X will be back this year though. I will have to check them out.

...and I need a scanner.

Sunday, June 7, 2009

Hi y'all

So I suppose I should give an introduction of sorts.

I’m a twenty four year old female from South Carolina who is obsessed with baseball cards. The baseball card isle is the first (and sometimes) only stop I make in a store and has been where every red cent of my money has gone over the past few weeks. (Self control is something I lack) Nothing makes me more excited and giddy then ripping open a pack of cards and seeing what I got. Since I am currently unable to work, I will do any job for my family that needs doing, from shoevling horseshit to washing cards in exchange for cards.

Although I have always loved the pieces of rectangular cardboard, I never really was serious about the hobby. I have always collected, but it was a just a pack here or a pack there. I didn’t really know much about the different brands or cards, or even that there where Series 1 and Series 2. I didn’t treat the cards a well as I should have.

Now, I’m older and wiser and the card collecting bug has bitten me hard. I still don’t know a lot about cards, but I hope to learn. I’ve been learning a lot by reading all the kick ass baseball blogs out there though. I had no idea there where so many of them. There are several now I read everyday, multiple times a day.

The blogs, combined with my nonexistent social life and lack of job. has inspired me to create my own blog. Bandwagon here I come!

The blog will be about my adventures in the baseball card world. From blaster packs to my futile serach of a baseball card shop, to... to... something.

I should also add that I’m a huge a Brave Fan. Chipper, AKA, the injury prone third baseman, is my favorite ball payer. They likely will also be brought up from time to time.
