I have yet to complete a full set

In the year and a half I have been a blogger and become a more determined and better informed collector, I have started many sets. Unfortunately.... not one of them is complete. A lot of them are close, in that I only need two or three cards, but those open slots in my binder mock me whenever I look at them. I feel... like a FAIIIIIIIILURE!

I am determined to change that however. This year I will find a way to complete a set, even if it is only one. I muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust!

My question to you set collectors is....

How long does it take you to complete a full set?

Where do you get the last few cards from?

How many sets are incomplete?

  1. I have so many incomplete sets I'm working on. I've also completed three or four this year. I tend to take 6-12 months to complete a set since I'm always a year behind.

I look to www.sportlots.com (if you can find cards from the same seller, the shipping can be cheap). I've also heard good things about www.justcommons.com (though I've yet to try it myself).

Also, post which cards you need in huge letters on the sidebar. There are a lot of kind people out there, you never know.

  2. I'm also a big set collector - and as you can see by the want list on my blog, I've got a lot of empty holes in my binder pages as well. I prefer to be patient, only resorting to eBay or the like when I'm really close to the end and a set has been off the market for a couple of years. I'm constantly surprised by new bloggers who offer me cards from a want list that has been untouched for two years. Patience is the key.

  3. A detailed want list on the blog works wonders. I've completed a number of sets over the last couple of years and in almost every case the last cards I needed came from readers/bloggers who read the want list and generously sent them along.
