BASEBALL BLOGGER SECRET SANTA! (SIGN UPS)

I started this a few years back and people seemed to enjoy it. I dropped the ball on the last couple of years  but decided it would be fun to bring back again.
If you aren't familiar with how secret Santa works, it is where you are randomly assigned one person to buy a gift for. You don't know who gets your name until you get the gift and they say who they are. They don't have to identify themselves but most people usually do. The only difference in this secret Santa is that the gift needs to be either related to sports or sports cards. It doesn't necessarily have to be baseball though.
Sign ups will from here until November 30th and then on the first of December you will be e-mailed your person and their address. Including shipping I have a spending limit of twenty dollars. I want this to be something fun to do not something that will break the bank. Due to costs I am going to limit this to people in the US just because shipping is a bitch .
If you want to sign up, please post here and then send an e-mail to me at martinpradofan@hotmail.com with your full address, your e-mail, link to your blog if you have one,  and a general wish list of your interests or even a link to your want list.  You can also include your wish list and blog when you post here as well if you want to.

So for me it would be...

Happy Halloween!

I had already carved a pumpkin using a stencil kit and then I saw... http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/atl/fan_forum/rules.jsp?adbid=527177121102196738&adbpl=tw&adbpr=21436663&loc=halloween&partnerId=as_atl_20141028_34571837

and I had to enter it with...

TTM success! Martin Prado

A little under two months ago I sent off TTM requests to Martin Prado and Gerald Laird.

Well, on Wednesday I got back one of  my SASE and it was from  Prado.  He signed both the card and the photo I sent.

Ginter Pack

These are all for trade.  I'm just looking for Braves. Plus Martin Prado.

Sunday, August 3, 2014

Ugh.

I really hate photoshop.

To upset for more words, or maybe a few.  I really liked Prado as a Brave, he was a great player that would play any position and also seemed like a great guy off the field.  He was just so.. happy when I would see him.
It was  bad enough when he was a Dimaondback, but at least then I could see  him play a  few times a year. Heck, I even went to a Arizona vs Braves game last year.  Now as ... that I will likely never see him except maybe once a year in inter league play and that is IF he even plays.  First B-Mac and now Prado.

It was also pretty terrible how he got the news.  He was in the car on his way to the ball park.  You would think they would do that kind of thing in person.

R.I.P Pete Van Wieren

Pete van Wieren passed away today from a battle with cancer at 69.   He was a longtime Atlanta Brave Broadcaster for 33 years.

Me and my grandmother listened to a lot of games of his.

Chipper actually commented...

...I cant believe I wasn't following him. Over a year and I didn't even realize it. ><. I am the most oblivious person in the world

2014 topps for trade and want list

First some pics

Braaaaaaaaaves

There was a McCann card, but I left him out.

All the colors

Inserts

Patch Card

I like the design overall.  The only minor gripe is the team name on the side.  It doesn't really flow with the rest of the card, sort of sticks out to me.  I would prefer just the logo in the corner. Still to many inserts to my liking.

If you want something, let me know.  My e-mail is now martinpradofan @ hotmail.com.

Blaster vs ceral box vs jumbo pack vs single pack

So, I picked up some 2014 Topps today.    I picked up a blaster box and two cereal boxes.

I was looking at the amount of cards you get and found that two cereal box is much better value than a blaster box.

80 cards are in  a blaster pack plus 1 patch for twenty dollars

72 cards are in a cereal box for ten dollars

36 cards are in a jumbo pack for five dollars (last years price)
10 cards are in a single pack for two dollars (last years price)

For 20 dollars you can get..
 80 cards in a blaster
144 cards in a cereal box
144 in a jumbo pack
100 in single packs

The jumbo and cereal boxe shave  64 cards than a  blaster and 44 cards more than single packs for the same price.

Can anyone tell me why?   Is it the  patch card  the reason there are so much fewer cards than in the others?

Can of Chipper.

So, I was surfing ebay when I came across this:

A CAN OF CHIPPER JONES!  It is a pinnacle 1998 product that features various players and inside the can is a pack of cards.  You need a can opener to open it.

SEE ^  You gotta have adult supervision!  I bet they wouldn't have this today, although 1998 isn't that long ago.  Way to many sue happy people out there.

I like the product information done like a  nutrition label.  Yes, it is sideways.  I rotated it on the computer  but it keeps showing up this way.

The cards!

I dunno what the hell was up with this card, or what they were thinking when they made it.  It is half a card of half a player featuring four different players, all Braves.

I  also did a video of me opening it.

Why I swore enough to make a sailor blush and nearly chucked my camera at a wall...

.  This is for my entry for Nacho Grande's blogger bracket challenge.

with this card
I had this really cool idea for a post where I would make a video and edit it to be super amazing and super spectacular.

....Then I got started and realized and realized how much I suck at video editing .   Oh, and that I was a  really horrible actor.

The lighting is horrible, sorry.  I had the light on and the window open.  Tried to mess around with it a  little but there wasn't much I could do.

What is Franklin Guitierrez staring at...

Duh.

Balls.  He's looking at balls.  Or more specifically, one ball. Not a particularly large ball.  In fact, compared to most balls, it is quite small.  To him though, this ball matters very much to him.

Grade school humor: check

He has such an enthralled look though.  He could be looking at all manner of things, like...

 SUPERMAN!

 A UFO!

 A CAT IN A TREE!

A FLYING SQUIRREL!

RAINBOW DASH!

MARRY POPPINS!

HIMSELF!

A FLYING COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!

Places where I have found baseball cards....

I am very unorganized and forgetful and lazy (and use and to much in a sentience)   I also have a lot of cards.    When you combine all that together you get cards in very unusual places.   Usually from me leaving them somewhere and forgetting to get them later.

Nephew's first Braves game

Went to the Braves game yesterday with my eight year old nephew and brother.  Had a great time.
Picked an awesome game for his first. 13-5 WIN!   Decent seats as well.

He is not a huge baseball fan though and he got a little bored at the end.   He said he  was annoyed doing the wave and "chop" so much.  "Those were the only things that were annoying."

He did say he had a good time though and said he'd go to another.  Wish he could have seen Heyward.  Or Chipper.

Him being silly before the game.  Or during I should say during.  We arrived at the bottom of the first inning. Amazing how many people come late.  Or late for me.  I usually arrive hours beforehand.

Enjoying some cotton candy.  He was so worried the cotton candy man wouldn't come our way.

Him and his dad.  So hard to get him to pose normally for a picture.

Some  game pictures

one of the many Met huddles.

Braves WIN!
