The best chocolate bar in the WORLD (that is no longer made)

I  have always been a huge Chipper fan. Anything and everything that had   (...had?) his name or image on it had to be mine! mine! MIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINE!   Shirts (lots of them)  posters (lots of them) figurines (lots of them) cards (lots and lots of them with help from you) and more   I even have a Chipper trashcan.

Back in 98 when I was all of thirteen, they announced they would be making a candy bar in honor of Chipper.  Well, you can imagine my reaction.

....I can make even the most rabid of the Bebier fan girls seem tame in comparison

Here is a youtube link of the bar and what a (very young) Chipper thinks.

Of course when they came out I had to have them. I don't remember where I got them from, just that I did.   I had two. One to eat and one to save.    I am not a big fan of candy but I loved that Chipper bar with its crispy rice!   So much so, that I did something unthinkable.

I was all set to save the other bar when we went to the grocery store.  How I remember this and yet forget where I put the TV remote five minutes later... I do not know.  I  just know it was late and I was in my then step fathers red Toyota. He had stopped by Bi-lo and I decided to stay in the truck while he shopped.  I also know that  when I looked up at the street lights they reminded me of alien space ships. (I was strange, even then)  I already had the bar with me at the time.  I don't know why, but I did.  Likely because I was (...was?) and over zealous fan girl.

I looked down at his sexy  cute face on the  wrapper  smiling back at me and told myself this bar was the one I was going to save.  I must not give into temptation and eat  his chocolaty goodness.    Like Eve with the apple, I was to be tempted, but this time it would be a then 26 year old ballplayer who led me astray as I ripped into the bar and devoured every bit of it.

I tried to justify myself by saying I would keep the wrapper.  Anyone that knows me though, knows  that this did not happen.  I would lose my own head if it were not attached... and other parts.  Thus the wrapper was lost forever.  I remember being upset and then getting over it. From time to time though I would  be reminded of the Bar that was named after the one they called Chipper and the despair and disappointment would come flooding back.  I would eagerly search google in hopes of coming across any signs of the bar only to leave the computer chair (actually a  kitchen chair dubbing as a computer chair) dejected and heartbroken.

Then one day I was searching ebay, and I came across the most wondrous site ever. Someone was selling a Martin Prado  light switch cover.

No, It was the Chipper bar.   Actually there was a Prado light switch cover I really wanted, but that is a tale for another time and place.   My journey was not over though.  I had another adversary, even worse than my nonexistent will power... my Mom

See, it was under her account. I had the money I could give her, but she thought it was a waste a of money.  Back and forth we went like two zombies with a severed arm,   but I prevailed in the end.

Now...
 BEHOLD THE WONDROUS CHIPPER BAR

and no, I am not gunnna eat it this time!

Take THAT (chipper) doubters!

There where a lot of people doubting if Chipper wold even make it through spring training. A lot of comments where made about how he should retire and pack it up and how he will never be as good as he once was.

Well, I will let his spring training stats do the talking

407 batting average (leading the team)
15 RBIs (leading the team)
4 Home runs (leading the team)

and best of all ... No pain in his knee in the last few weeks!

I know spring training is not always and indication of how well a player will do in the regular season. I know he is not likely to have the stats he did in his younger years. But damn does it feel good to see him doing so well.

Now I will post some of my cards of Chipper.

Safe Chipper! (or it kind of looks like the pirates are heading to the dugout, but I still say he is safe, cause he's chipper.)

Hippee Chippe!

In the air after after just thrown a ball Chipper!

Big headed Chipper!

Posing Chipper.

Mooooooooooooooooore Chippa's!

He's backl

First Braves spring training came on TV and Chipper is at the hot corner! It feels so good to see #10 on the field again. This is his first game playing at third since he collapsed last after making the kind of play he's known for . He has been pitch hitting in some of the previous games and the knee has not been giving him any problems. He made two of the outs in the first by catching a pop up and throwing to first.

I just pray his knee does him good throughout spring training and the season. He said that he wants to play around 130 or so games and I hope he is able to. He hasn't been able to play 150 games since 2003 and while I know he will have to have a few days off now and again, I hope he is able to make his goal. No, I hope he is able to surpass it. This could be his last year and I want it to be a great one. I hope he gets one more world series ring to add to his collection.

Wouldn't it be great to have his first full season as a world series winner and his last?

There is no crying in baseball.

Except for now. I can't believe I am crying over a damn baseball player. That is a a girl for you, ehhh?

Chipper is out for the rest of the season. Likely for his career if he retires this year, which I have a feeling he will. He is going to need surgery on his knee.

Goddammit. God fucking dammit. He was doing so well lately. His hitting had really come around.

I planned on seeing him play this year, possibly his least year. We have been talking about tickets and the best time to go just yesterday. Now that will never happen.

There will never be a player like Chipper. Not ever, He was one helluva ball player and one I know will be in the hall of fame. Not only that, but he cared about his team. You hardly ever see that kind of loyalty, where players go to whoever the highest bidder is.

Chipper negotiated his contract to help the team. How many people would do that? Not many. He even moved to left field to help out. He was the definition of a team player. he was the spokesman for the Braves and a mentor for the younger players. The only Brave left from the team of the 90's. He started as a Braves and will leave as one. That is a rare commmidity these days , when players bounce around from team to team like ping pong balls.

He was my all time favorite baseball player. I loved him ever since I was ten years old when I first picked him out. I have watched him him struggle and read about his hardships, some his own fault. I have clipped articles, collected memorabilia and cheered myself hoarse. I have wathced him mature not only as a ball player, but as a man. You will be missed Chipper.

Pictures!

Yup, pictures.

.. OF BRAVES!

BRAAAAAAAAAAVE PICTURES that where taken either be me or my mom, or in one or two cases a stranger.

Why pictures? Cuse I have nothing productive to say.

This was taken this year in Evans GA. It was at a sports store.

FAN FEST 07... taken by my ymom. She went in McCann's line, I was in Frenchy's. We where both in Chipper's. We wanted a pic with him and me, but they rushed us through the line so fast we couldn't. Did see his wife and children... I think he even had the Hooter baby with him. ...Hooter baby was what my grandmother called the kid who's mom is the Hooter's waiter/worker that he slept with.

This was the women's day thingee in 07. I was there!
